Can I get both Social Security Benefits and VA Benefits?
Yes, a veteran can receive both. However, this applies only to SSD benefits and VA compensation benefits. It does not apply to SSI or VA pension benefits. These benefits are income and asset tested and cannot generally be combined with other benefits.

I was discharged from the U.S.A. Navy in 1990, one year short of my term of duty based on THEIR psychological determination and testing. I have been unable to get anything from the Veteran’s Administration yet regarding this even though I have done everything in my power since my discharge date of 1990. I was diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder and I realize I have this but I do not get care for this ONLY because I have no transportation to and from the Veteran’s Clinic other than my Mother and Father who live here in Orlando. I live with my parents at this time because I CANNOT find employment due to my severe physcial and psychological problems and feel I should be compensated for both of these things. I am not trying to be lazy to to “live off* a check, it’s just that I truly need to money to live on at this time. I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of bilateral legs, chronic hepatitis-B, emphysema and bipolar affective disorder. My DD214 from the U.S.A. Navy has personality disorder as the cause of my early discharge from naval service. I feel I should be compensated for this as I was planning on making the military my lifelong career and that was a lifelong goal and dream of mine. Thank you for your time.
NOTE: DO NOT LET the V.A. doctors fool you as they claim my emphysema is not severe. I am short of breath ALL the time even without any exertion, I have a dry cough and all times, wheezing and I have excessive mucus production, all symptoms of emphysema as I was worried about these things and sought help and found that these are just SOME of the symptoms of emphysema. I might further add that I knew I had something wrong with my lungs because I had ALL these things even before I was diagnosed.
