Los Angeles is home to a large veteran population! In fact, the U.S. Census estimates that, in 2019, there were over 243,000 U.S. military veterans living in Los Angeles County. That’s about 3.1 percent of the county’s civilian population, age 18 years or older.
Challenges that U.S. veterans face when returning home from war include difficulty finding employment, accessing healthcare, and dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Luckily, there are many resources in Los Angeles that can help veterans transition back to civilian life.
One obvious resource is the Veterans Affairs (VA) Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. The VA provides health care services, benefits programs, and access to housing assistance for veterans. They also have a 24-hour crisis line that veterans can call if they are struggling with PTSD or other mental health issues.
Additionally, we compiled a list of other organizations typically founded by fellow veterans or families of veterans to help our brave men and women.
