Base Background

Camp Lee was established in 1917 as a major training site and one of Virginia’s largest military installations. After briefly closing in 1921, it was rebuilt in 1940 for World War II, gaining a reputation as an effective training center. It later became a permanent facility, Fort Lee, and underwent modernization before being renamed Fort Gregg-Adams in 2023. Today, it supports 29,000 personnel and trains 70,000 troops annually.
