Fort Rucker
Base Background
Located in Dale County, Alabama, Fort Novosel was established in 1942 as the main flight training center for U.S. Army Aviators and is home to the Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Previously known as Fort Rucker, it was renamed to remove Confederate ties. Unfortunately, years of firefighting foam (AFFF) use have led to PFAS contamination, exposing personnel to harmful chemicals linked to cancer. Other toxic substances may have also been present over the years. Veterans and their families affected by toxic exposure at Fort Novosel may be eligible for VA benefits or compensation.
