Joint Base Langley-Eustis/ Langley AFB
Base Background
Langley Air Force Base, established in 1916, is one of the oldest continuously active air bases in the world. Originally developed as a joint airfield and testing ground for the Army, Navy, and National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA)—the predecessor to NASA—it played a key role in early aviation advancements. In 2005, the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) merged Langley AFB and Fort Eustis, forming Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE). Both bases hold a rich military history and continue to support vital Air Force operations today.
