The military acquired the land for Letterkenny Army Depot in 1941, and the base started operations in 1942 with the arrival of the first ammunition shipment. This location soon became the largest employer in the county, focusing on ammunition storage and shipments. Today, the base provides repair and maintenance services for missile and defense missions.
