McClellan Air Force Base
Base Background
McClellan Air Force Base, active from 1935 to 2001, was located in North Highlands, Sacramento County, California, about 7 miles northeast of Sacramento. Originally founded as Pacific Air Depot and later Sacramento Air Depot, it was renamed in 1939 after Major Hezekiah McClellan, a pioneer in Arctic aeronautical testing. The base served as a logistics and maintenance hub for military aircraft, equipment, and supplies.
Unfortunately, McClellan AFB is heavily contaminated with PFAS, a group of harmful chemicals. Veterans stationed there after 1966 who are experiencing health issues related to toxic exposure may be eligible for VA benefits or compensation.
