Natick Soldier Center
Base Background
Construction of the Quartermaster Research Facility at Natick began in 1952 following Congressional authorization in 1949. Over the years, it underwent multiple redesignations, becoming the Quartermaster Research and Development Center in 1953 and later the Quartermaster Research and Engineering Command. By 1980, it became the U.S. Army Natick Research & Development Laboratories, followed by several structural changes under Troop Support Command (TSC) and Army Materiel Command (AMC). In 1992, DARCOM and TSC merged to form the U.S. Army Aviation & Troop Command, solidifying Natick’s role in military research and development.
