Schriever Air Force Base
Base Background
Schriever Space Force Base, located 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, was established in 1983 and originally named Schriever Air Force Base in honor of General Bernard Adolph Schriever, a pioneer in ballistic missile development. Home to the 50th Space Wing, the base provides command and control for over 170 DoD satellites. However, firefighting foam (AFFF) use has led to severe PFAS contamination, with other potential toxic exposures on site. Veterans stationed at Schriever who are experiencing health issues may be eligible for VA benefits or compensation.
Known Toxins
The following chart outlines the medical conditions associated with toxic exposure at this base, classified by the strength of evidence required (strong, good or limited).* Please keep in mind that it is not a complete list.
